Therapy: Welcome

What To Expect From Therapy

A Life Worth Living

As a highly trained and experienced psychologist, I use an integrative approach to support people to make sense of their experiences and to find a more manageable way forward. This means that I am able to use aspects from a variety of evidence- based therapies that I am trained in and allows me to tailor therapy to the needs of the individual as there is no 'one size fits all' method of therapy.

I offer a flexible service, with evening and weekend appointments available. I provide therapy in person at Space Therapies in Stirchley or online, depending on your needs.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is based on the idea that thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and behaviour are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and feelings can lead to people acting out repeated cycles of behaviour. Sometimes these cycles can be unhelpful.

CBT aims to change these negative patterns to improve the way people feel.

Unlike some other talking therapies, CBT focuses on current experiences, rather than focusing on the past.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) centres on accepting that the avoidance and denial of difficult feelings can be unhelpful. It views these feelings as understandable and appropriate responses to life situations. By developing a shared understanding of this in therapy and increasing mindfulness and psychological flexibility, individuals can then commit to making behavioural changes that move them towards what is important to them.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

DBT is a type of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy which is adapted for people who feel emotions very intensely. It is the recommended treatment for individuals with a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).

The aim of DBT is to support individuals to: (1) Understand and accept difficult feelings; (2) Learn skills to manage these feelings; (3) Make positive changes in their lives.

DBT teaches that it is possible to learn to accept ourselves but also to change our unhelpful behaviours.

Mentalization Based Therapy (MBT)

MBT borrows elements and techniques from cognitive behavioural, psychodynamic, and systemic therapies. MBT practitioners work to establish a secure therapeutic attachment with patients, and create a safe environment in which individuals can begin to deeply explore their own feelings and those of others.

MBT helps individuals to think before they react to their own feelings or to the perceived feelings of others. The goal of MBT is for individuals to not only understand their own thoughts and feelings, but also to consider what thoughts and feelings may be driving the behaviour of others.
